On Line Robotics in Today's Nuclear Power Plants

Abstract

The Remotely Operated Service Arm (ROSA) was developed by the Nuclear Services Integration Division of Westinghouse to perform automated services in nuclear power plants thereby removing the worker from the radiation environment. With this service, Westinghouse has been able to save utilities hundreds of man rem while assuring quality performance through state-of-the-art equipment. This technology has created new horizons in the nuclear service industry where Westinghouse is playing a major role today. The intent of this paper is to present ROSA and several of the tasks it has performed.
