Abstract

In 1988 a major project is planned to be undertaken at Pickering NGS on the reactor fuel channel assemblies. This project will involve remotely locating and repositioning the four spacer rings that separate the fuel coolant tube from the surrounding calandria tube. This paper describes the requirements for SLAR and the work being undertaken at Pickering NGS to implement the proj ect . of the fuel channel assemblies. Relevant details of the design of the fuel channel assemblies for all the Pickering NGS reactors is provided in table 1. It can be seen that there are some differences between units 1 and 2, 3 and 4, and 5 to 8. The most significant of these is that units 1 to 4 were designed with only two garter springs per channel whereas units 5 to 8 were designed with four per channel.
