Assessment of the Code CHAN3 for the Prediction of the Thermal Response of a CANDU Fuel Channel During a Loss-of-Coolant Accident with Impaired Emergency Cooling Against Experimental Results

Abstract

The CHAN codes are fast-running scoping codes used to predict the thermal response of a CANDU fuel channel during a loss-of-coolant accident. This paper summarizes the most important models contained in CHAN3, and compares CHAN3 results with experimental data from two ongoing test series.
