Fission Gas Release from Thoria-Based Fuels: Comparison with Model Predictions

Abstract

We describe how the ELESIM fuel performance code is being modified for use with thoria-based fuel. Preliminary calculations of fission gas release show reasonable agreement with observed values for ThO₂-UO₂ elements irradiated over a range of conditions: linear powers of 7 to 69. kW/m and burnups from 20 to 1350 MW. h/kg HE to produce measured releases from 0.1 to 15%
