Abstract

With successfully completed CNSC Phase-2 Vendor Design Review, Terrestrial Energy continually pursue the developed strategy for validation of computer code used in the design and safety analysis of final product, an Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) nuclear power plant design. As the first element of computer code validation process, a team of subject-matter experts has developed a technical basis document consisting of phenomena identification and ranking table, adopted CANDU industry methodology and approach and extended these to a broad range of new generation technologies, including molten salt reactor. It has further outlined discipline-specific phenomena and their effects on the acceptance criteria, safety concerns, and key figures of merit for the representative postulated initiating events, as well as ranking of phenomena importance and knowledge level for IMSR on Generation IV reactor technology. With complete subsequent computer code validation activities, the high confidence will be gained complying regulatory requirement in the computer code applicability and accuracy for the intended application to IMSR.
