Technology Neutral Requirements for CSA N285.0/N285.6 Series Supplement

Abstract

CSA N285.0, General requirements for pressure-retaining systems and components in CANDU nuclear reactor power plants provides general requirements for pressure-retaining systems, components and supports in CANDU nuclear power plants. With the advent of new reactor technologies it has become necessary to establish a new set of general requirements. The paper will summarise the challenges in undertaking this task while still maintaining the framework under which the Canadian nuclear industry operates.

This paper will summarise the work currently underway to establish a set of supplementary requirements that are technology neutral and can be used by any reactor technology new to the industry. Main points to be discussed in the paper include the following:

• Formation of CSA N285.0 Task Force J in order to undertake the work necessary to establish the new requirements.
• Results of workshop held to obtain industry input, outside of those already participating in Task Force J, on the work being undertaken.
• Discussion of current CSA N285.0 requirements and how they may or may not relate to new technologies.
• Major areas addressed include Code Classification, Design, Registration, Fabrication, Materials and Quality Assurance & Quality Control.
