Abstract

Nuclear facilities make use of mobile computers (e.g. laptops) to perform computer-related services such as digital equipment installation, digital equipment maintenance, data recording and archival, and digital equipment testing and prototyping. As nuclear facilities contain larger and larger numbers of digital equipment due to the increasing availability of digital solutions from suppliers, there is a need to have a fleet of mobile computers that provide these computer- related services. Having mobile computer fleets further necessitates a need to provide adequate management functionality and having a keen eye towards maintaining cyber security regulatory compliance and cyber security best practices. This paper emphasises the importance of safely and securely delivering these computer-related services to digital equipment in nuclear facilities without compromising the facility’s ability to operate in an efficient manner, and outlines the strategies that Alithya has employed, and the challenges Alithya has encountered, with implementing adequate management functionality, and maintaining cyber security regulatory compliance and cyber security best practices, for these mobile computer fleets within nuclear facilities.
