Addressing Evolving Sector Needs within the CSA Nuclear Standards Program

Abstract
Canadian Standards Association, operating as CSA Group (“CSA”), is a not-for-profit, membership-based organization dedicated to safety, social good, and sustainability with a mission to enhance the lives of Canadians through the advancement of Standards. The CSA Nuclear Program facilitates the development of standards to support a safe, reliable nuclear sector in Canada and strives to be a positive influence within the international nuclear power community.
This paper provides an overview of CSA Group and the CSA standards development process. It introduces the CSA Nuclear Program and specifically describes various types of CSA solutions, including standards research, workshops, and other standards-based deliverables, and examples of how these solutions have been leveraged to address evolving nuclear sector needs for new technologies and current facilities.
This paper provides an overview of CSA’s process for working with a wide range of relevant and interested parties in the nuclear sector, while covering CSA’s committee structures for the governing Nuclear Strategic Steering Committee (NSSC) and the Technical Committees and Subcommittees.
The paper concludes with a summary of the current standardization initiatives and opportunities in which relevant and interested parties within the sector may participate.
