Abstract

Mission-critical, high-risk activities have always benefitted from high-end simulation. Virtual Reality (VR) has emerged as a powerful tool in the last decade, providing similar benefits of a life-size simulator to a much wider audience. This technology challenges current training assumptions and breaks down time and space barriers. VR Smart models populate the virtual environment with simulated data for training purposes and generate corresponding equipment states, providing trainees with realistic in-field feedback.

However, just like simulators, VR has taken some time to catch on and break the resistance barrier. Currently, only an estimated two out of ten people have tried VR. While adoption rates are speeding up, VR is constantly improving and evolving into its next versions, such as XR (Extended Reality). Early successes and barriers are helping to build a more robust connection between the virtual and the real worlds. In this presentation, we will discuss where VR is heading and why technology familiarization is crucial. VR Smart Simulation technology offers a training experience like no other, and the opportunities it provides are vast.
