Abstract

A simulator of a nuclear reactor has been developed at Queen's University for nuclear engineering education at the undergraduate level. The objective of the simulator is to provide the student with an enhanced understanding and a clearer insight into the fundamental principles governing the operation of a nuclear reactor. The simulator serves to both complement and reinforce the theory taught by conventional methods in the classroom.

The simulator is described, together with the underlying mathematical model and its capabilities. The scope of the simulator is intentionally limited in order to best fulfill its objective. The simulator's simplicity renders this paper tutorial in nature.
