Removable Resin Coatings for Decommissioning Applications
Main Article Content
Abstract
Promation Nuclear Ltd. (Promation) and Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Centre for Canadian Nuclear Sustainability (CCNS) have entered a collaboration research study on removable coatings as one of decontamination and containment of radionuclide particles solutions for the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station (PNGS) decommissioning program. Five commercially available coatings are proposed as part of the study. The coatings are then to be applied in a number of contaminated application areas in the PNGS to investigate their decontamination and containment performance. This research study consists of three parts: 1. Research and conduct literature review of commercially available coatings and determine suitable application areas in the PNGS; 2. Develop mechanical testing plan and conduct mechanical tests at Promation’s facility on a variety of surfaces including concrete floors and steel beams to replicate reactor type environment; 3. Develop on-site radiological testing plan and apply coatings to the contaminated application areas in the PNGS to determine decontamination factors and coatings’ effectiveness. This paper includes literature review and preliminary results of mechanical testing.
