Abstract

The importance of engaging effectively with the public and Indigenous groups has long been recognized as vital for any large development project to be successful. With the emerging small modular reactor (SMR) industry in Canada, it is imperative for vendors and utilities to adopt a comprehensive and robust approach.

This paper describes the principles of the approach to collaborative engagement with Indigenous rightsholders and public stakeholders, adopted by New Brunswick Power (NB Power), Moltex Energy (Moltex), and ARC Clean Energy Canada Inc. (ARC Canada). It reviews the importance of adapting strategies in response to Indigenous knowledge and perspectives, and the views and concerns of other public interest groups.
