Assessment of Irradiated Fuel Storage Siting Options

Abstract

There are several options available to Ontario Hydro for the siting of irradiated fuel storage facilities. These options consist of either continued storage at the generating stations or centralized storage. These options were assessed for their technical feasibility, safety, security and safeguards, environmental effects and economics. The assessment did not find any clear advantage in the centralized storage option. Continuation of onsite storage was recommended.
