In-Ground Containers at BNPD

Abstract

Augered boreholes are being used for storage of radioactive wastes on various North American sites. Ontario Hydro has developed its own designs and installed them at the Bruce Nuclear Power Development Waste Operations Site-2 (BNPD RWOS-2). This paper describes the development of the design from earlier non-augered in-ground designs. The construction, safety and costs of the as-built structures is reviewed.
