Abstract

The diffusion coefficients (Dm) of Cs+ and I- in compacted bentonite-sand mixture were determined as a function of the effective clay dry density and the sand content. The Yc varied from 1.25 to 1.75 Mg/m^3 and the sand contents of the mixture range from 0 to 75 wt.%. The Dm of Cs+ and I- in these systems are ~2x10^-11 m^2/s and ~3 x 10^-13 m^2/s, respectively, and are virtually independent of Yc and sand content over the range of values that were examined.
