Variable ROP Setpoints Remove Random Epistemic Detector Error
Main Article Content
Abstract
The mathematical basis of a fully automatic real-time variable setpoint design for ROP is outlined. Variable setpoints eliminate random epistemic detector error thus raising trip margin. Traditionally, snapshot detector reading simulations are used to calculate fixed setpoints making error unavoidable. With variable setpoints, only a fixed maximum setpoint level is pre-determined for the maximum reading detector. On-line detector readings prorate the maximum setpoint thus replacing detector simulations and epistemic error. Probability in real-time is compliant to that calculated for safety analysis. Also, the LOR is no longer confined to be spatially uniform and, with a feed-forward derivative term, slow.
