Design Considerations for Stablization of Inactive Uranium Mill Tailings Piles

Abstract

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) oversees the Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) Project. This involves remedial action work at 24 inactive uranium mill tailings piles in 10 states. The principal objective of the UMTRA Project is to provide engineering designs that ensure the long-term containment and stability requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards.
