Computer Control in CANDU Plants

Abstract

CANDU reactors use a dual computer system in a master and standby configuration for plant monitoring and control. All major functions such as reactor power, boiler pressure and level, unit power regulation, moderator temperature as well as on line fuelling are computer controlled. Control functions are supported by computer driven annunciation systems and colour displays. This paper describes: the control and control and monitoring functions, the provide the necessary reliability, commissioning the control programs and systems at CANDU stations.
