Abstract

The 200 MWe Douglas Point Nuclear Generating Station operated over a period of 18 years from 1966 to 1984 when it was retired from service for economic reasons. It uses a CANDU type reactor and is located in the Province of Ontario on the shores of Lake Huron. This paper describes some of the experiences in servicing the reactor where remotely operated equipment had to be used because of the high radiation fields. The four particular servicing programs covered are as follows with the location of the reactor components involved being identified in the cut-away view of the reactor in Figure 1-1. 1) Repair of Calandria Vessel Cooling Supply Piping; 2) Video Inspection of Calandria Support Rods; 3) Pressure Tube Removal From Fuel Channels; 4) Booster Fuel Removal.
