Commercial Implementation of an Innovative Multi-stage Treatment System for Removal of Radiological and Chemical Contaminants to Near-Zero Levels
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Bruce A Active Liquid Waste Treatment System (ALWTS) is a unique and innovative multi-stage treatment system whose function is to treat waste water containing low-level radioactive and conventional contaminants to meet stringent federal and provincial regulations. With the exception of tritium, there are near zero waterborne radioactive and conventional emissions to the environment. In a recent assessment, WANO identified the Bruce A ALWTS as an industry leading strength. A description of the system is provided, as well as a review of operating history, including a summary of achievements and operational challenges.
