Review of on-line Monitoring Techniques for Nuclear Power Plants

Abstract

The nuclear industry has attempted to use the condition-based instrument maintenance strategy to overcome the drawbacks of the traditional maintenance practice. In the new strategy, the instrument channels are monitored using advanced on-line monitoring (OLM) techniques during operation. Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Autoassociative Neural Networks (AANN) and Multivariate State Estimation Technique (MSET) are three well-known OLM techniques. In this paper, a technical review of these three techniques and their applications in Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) is presented.
