Tooling Solutions for Adjuster Rod Extraction During Darlington Nuclear Refurbishment Unit-2

Abstract

During Darlington Nuclear Refurbishment (DNR) on Unit-2, complications were encountered with extracting a select set of Adjuster Rod assemblies. OPG Inspection and Reactor Innovation (IRI) was called upon to support DNR with analysis of the problem and the development of a tooling solution to allow for event-free extraction of the remaining rods. This technical paper provides an overview of the problem, details of the concept generation and decision making process applied to find the optimal tooling solution, and an overview of the technical path forward for rod extraction.
