Radon Progeny Identification and Rejection Based on Pseudo Coincidence Technique – Feasibility Analysis
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper presents design criteria of radiation detection sensors that implement pseudo coincidence event method of radon progeny identification and compensation. The compensation for radon progeny interference is often called “radon rejection”. Radon progeny interference with radiation measurement poses special challenges in personnel contamination monitoring (PCM) as it may be causing nuisance alarms that actually are not “false alarms”. Physical characteristics and behavior of radon progeny is described followed by short overview of different methods of radon compensation. The pseudo coincidence event (PCE) method is described. The test and validation procedure is proposed. Results of simulation of the method are presented.
