Abstract

The objectives of the Bruce NGS-A fuel scheduling program are to minimize flux peaking (which can lead to &ratings), achieve low fuelling unit energy cost, make the most efficient use of the available fuel handling capability and avoid fuel defects. The reason behind the choice of a mixed 8/4-bundle shifting scheme are described.

The effects of fuelling on the calibrated settings of the neutron overpower system detectors is also described. A brief summary of fuel burnup, fuel cost, and fuel defect experience is given.

The mixed 8/4-bundle shifting scheme has largely satisfied the objectives of the fuel scheduling program to date. Improvements in fuel handling system capability and fuel burnup continue to be sought.
