Application of Technology and Vendor Readiness Level Evaluations to Small Modular Reactors

Abstract

SMR technologies are of growing interest to Canadian stakeholders, although structured models for evaluating their technology and vendor readiness have not been readily available. Using an adaptation of the U.S. Department of Energy's Technology Readiness Level (TRL) model to evaluate technology readiness and SMR Vendor Readiness Level (VRL) model developed by Hatch to evaluate vendor readiness, Canadian stakeholders are able to evaluate and compare the readiness and development of various SMR ventures. These tools can assist stakeholders in business decisions.
