Development of Advanced CANDU Fuel Bundles in Korea

Abstract

Korea has developed the advanced CANDU fuels for last few decades, since Wolsong Unit #1 started to operate at 1983. At the beginning stage of CANDU fuel bundle development, the imported technologies of the fuel design and fabrication should be localized at first. Since 1987 after localizing CANDU fuel technology in Korea, some types of the advanced CANDU fuels such as CANFLEX, DUPIC, high burnup fuel, CHF enhanced fuel, high safety fuel, etc. has been developed. This paper presents the backgrounds and technology aspects for developing the advanced fuels which has been developed in Korea since W-1 NPP started to operate.
