Application of Simulated Annealing to Determining RFSP Target Exit Irradiations

Abstract

A simulated annealing optimization technique was applied to the problem of determining optimal target exit irradiation values for the CANDU† Reactor Fuelling Simulation Program (RFSP-IST). Optimized target exit irradiation values would result in a good match between measured and simulated channel powers, while also achieving a desired core effective multiplication factor. The merits and drawbacks of the method as applied to this problem are discussed.
