Abstract

To help identify the effect of scale on centrifugal pump performance in steam-water flow, a computer database containing data from five pump test series has been created. A total of 3777 test points are included.

Evaluation of the test data for the normal operating quadrant shows that the two-phase pump head follows the overall trend indicated by the widely used ANC correlation. However, the void fraction at which the head degrades appears to increase strongly with the impeller diameter and specific speed, in a way not accounted for by the ANC model. This suggests that the ANC model maybe inaccurate when applied to large-scale reactor pumps.
