Nuclear Waste Disposal in the Pacific Basin : Geology Overview

Abstract

Geology overview is made for the nuclear waste disposal in the Pacific Basin, from the viewpoint that we are now on the threshold of the development of research on the geological disposal. The research on the geological disposal was until now not generally made for the region of earth-movements of young age, the young mobile belts. The Pacific Basin includes wide young mobile belts as the circum-Pacific region. Therefore, to make long-term plan for the research on the geological disposal of high-level nuclear waste and to promote it in the Pacific Basin, geological characteristics in such mobile belts must be checked up and examined in the beginning. This is the intention of this paper.
