Prediction of the Flooding Point in a Vertical to Horizontal Tube with and without Obstructions

Abstract
This paper presents a model to predict the flooding point in a test section containing vertical and horizontal legs both with and without an orifice located in the horizontal leg. The predictions of the flooding point obtained using this model are compared to experimental results obtained both in our laboratory and those of other researchers. It will be shown that in general the agreement between the predicted and experimental flooding points is excellent. It should be pointed out that to the best of the authors knowledge there are no models available in the open literature which are capable of predicting the flooding point occuring in an elbow between a vertical and a horizontal leg in which an orifice is placed.
