Abstract

A three dimensional thermal hydraulic analysis computer program THERVIS-III (thermo-viscous flow analysis program in three dimensions) has been developed to compute thermal hydraulic phenomena in the LMFBR plenum. In this study, numerical techniques and mathematical models used in the THERVIS-III program were evaluated to ascertain their applicability to LMFBR flow. Computing titre, which is critical especially in three dimensional and/or turbulent calculations, was reduced for solution of the pressure equation and tested for a cavity flow problem with temperature disturbance. Accuracy was evaluated for thermal stratification phenotrena which is representative of flow in LMFBR components. Water and sodium experiments with simple geometry were analyzed to clarify the accuracy of thermal stratification analysis in different fluids.
