Abstract

A thermal-hydraulic code developed to calculate the moderator velocity field and temperature distribution in the calandria of a CANDU reactor is presented. The code employs a finite-difference technique to solve three-dimensional equations of fluid motion, including the K‐ε turbulence model, in a fairly complex geometry. The flow pattern and temperature distribution predicted for a typical configuration are presented along with a comparison of the predictions with the results of in-reactor temperature measurements, showing satisfactory agreement.
