Abstract

RD-12 is a recirculating test facility whose function is to provide experimental data suitable for validating the thermalhydraulics codes used in the safety analysis of CANDU reactors. The complete range of events which could occur in a reactor loss-of-coolant accident, from initiation of blowdown, through high pressure coolant injection, to long term cooling, can be produced in RD-12 in a controlled and reproducible manner . Integrated experiments withand without cold water injection have been performed. Several of these experiments have been predicted using the thermalhydraulics code RAMA. It is shown that many of the significant features of the experiments were reproduced by RAMA and that those discrepancies which occur are due to conditions in the experiments being outside the range of validity of the EVET model currently used in the code.
