Abstract

In this paper the thermal design of a horizontal steam generator for the Indian PHWR Nuclear Power plant is described. The main attraction is absence of tube sheet and use of stainless steel 'U' tubes. It is emphasised that with appropriate water chemistry it is possible to use stainless steel tubes which is many times cheaper than the incoloy tubes used elsewhere. The design approach, applicable equation for the design and the results of computation in form of heat transfer area and some important dimensions of the steam generator are presented.
