Development of a Capability for the Measurement of Residual Stresses in Rolled Joints of CANDU Reactor Pressure Tubes
Main Article Content
Abstract
A knowledge of residual stresses in CANDU reactor pressure tubes, particularly in the rolled joint region, is important regarding structural integrity considerations. Only direct measurements can yield accurate residual stress information, but existing equipment and techniques have significant limitations. This paper describes a development program to adapt the center hole technique for use on the inside of pressure tubes at the rolled joint region. The detailed design, fabrication, assembly and preliminary functional testing for a prototype remote-controlled residual stress measurement device has been completed. This device is capable of performing residual stress measurements on non-irradiated, and irradiated, components.
