Research Reactor Simulation: A Study in Reactor Dynamics and Control
Main Article Content
Abstract
AGN and TRlGA research reactor models were developed for the purpose of providing a framework to test feedback control algorithms. These models were implemented on a PC compatible system with a graphical interface which simulates the instrumentation on each reactor system in a real time mode. The simulator operator monitors the reactor parameters such as power level, coolant flowrates, control rod position, and fuel and coolant temperatures by observing strip chart recorders as well as LED, slider, and digital indicators. The operator is allowed to control the system parameters by moving control rods and changing coolant flowrates. System behaviors are modeled on data from real systems and published characteristics. The simulators provide an excellent tool to begin initial training in reactor dynamics without having to use real systems.
