Abstract

Westinghouse has designed and manufactured steam generators which have been in commercial operation since the early 1960's. Certain technical issues have been identified for some operating steam generators and these issues will be discussed in this paper. Westinghouse recommended, in -1974, an all volatile treatment water chemistry operation for steam generators. In addition, the application of boric acid as a contributor to corrosion inhibition for denting and alkaline induced stress corrosion cracking environments has also been recommended. b In 1980, the first Model F-type steam generator designed and manufactured by Westinghouse began operation with advanced features to address corrosion concerns that were observed in the industry. The Model F-type steam generator is a proven design with 84 units in commercial operation, and over 400,000 tubes and 2.3 million "tube years" of service. Operating plant data demonstrates the effectiveness of the design enhancements in the Model F-type units which have operated with no indications of systemic corrosion.
