Abstract

Work Sampling in Ontario Hydro's Nuclear Operations Branch (NOB) is one of the work programs that addresses human performance problems. Human performance is itself one of four key strategic areas addressed by the NOB maintenance strategy. The work sampling methodology was designed to measure actual hands on tool time (wrench time) and other activities associated with station maintenance' staff. Bruce Nuclear Generating Station 'A' (Bruce NGS 'A') developed a methodology for wrench time and work delays measurement and evaluated it by conducting a pilot study in April 1991. The Bruce NGS 'B' station and other departments, such as Bruce Site Services, have adopted the same methodology to conduct studies in their maintenance groups. This paper describes the methodology and discusses the results of wrench time studies conducted at Bruce NGS. 'A' and 'B'. On the basis of the data collected from these wrench time studies, conclusions are drawn as to the usefulness of the work sampling technique.
