Bruce NGS-B Valve Improvement Program

Abstract

The Bruce "B" Valve Improvement Program began in 1987 based on the results of Unit 6 start up. In the past Bruce "B" used 187-I and 127-A asbestos packing materials both conventional and live loaded with good results. Bruce "B" experienced packing failures on a number of valves after units were shutdown for regular maintenance. On start up of the units the number of leaks sometimes surpassed the leaks repaired during the shutdown. Our challenge is to make operation of our equipment meet and exceed today's accepted performance. Part of this program was the elimination of asbestos materials, and the testing of nonasbestos packing.
