Abstract

A neutron radiographic system was modeled to examine the effects of knife-edge geometry on the A sharpness parameter. Beam geometry, the angle of edge cut, and the offset distance between the film emulsion and the edge were examined. All of these factors can affect the values of A. A gadolinium knife-edge should be used as it is less sensitive to the cut angle and a standard offset should be used when comparing different facilities since the A value is strongly dependent on offset distance and LID ratio. Modeling the converter and film as parallel plane source and detector was shown to be unrealistic.
