A Proposed Upgrading Of The Hfr Hb-8 Neutron Radiography Facility For Commercial Application

Abstract

The Petten Neutron Radiography Services, PNRS, representing the Joint Neutron Radiography (NR) Services of the ECN and JRC at Petten, have undertaken a feasibility study of further upgrading of the present HB-8 NR facility at the High Flux Reactor (HFR) for commercial applications. This paper reviews the present HFR HB-8 NR facility and the results of the study. A two step upgrading of the NR facility has been considered: 1) optimization of the present system, and 2) a new design of the components for guiding and conditioning the neutron beam including a dedicated NR laboratory outside the KER containment building.
