Abstract

During the characterization of the NRU (National Research Universal) neutron radiography facility, it became evident that no suitable means existed for describing the sharpness of images produced in that facility. A method for determining image unsharpness is described in this paper. The method is simple and easily implimented; relying only on the availability of a scanning microdensitometer. It was postulated that the width of the density position curve that corresponds to some specified fraction of the full height of the curve can be related to the total image unsharpness through a simple constant. However, no such relationship could be found.
