Characterization Of A Neutron Generator-based Radiography System By Monte Carlo Neutron And Photon Transport Calculations

Abstract
Using a coupled neutron/photon Monte Carlo 3D-transport simulation program several characterizing data of a D-T-neutron generator-based radiography system were computed. Results of the calculations were compared to experimentally determined values and good agreement was found. It is demonstrated that Monte Carlo simulations can be conveniently used to acquire detailed information on many radiographic and radiation safety aspects of neutron radiography systems and, furthermore, it is shown that Monte Carlo simulations can be used to improve the design of present and future radiography systems.
