Abstract

A review is presented of the research and development programs aimed at improving the operating performance of steam generators in CANDU units. Much of the work is complementary to programs carried out in support of PWRs worldwide but is often applied to specific site problems which result from a particular design or operating chemistry. A number of areas are covered including mechanical effects, thermal hydraulic modelling, fouling, chemistry and corrosion. Finally some remedial measures, designed to ameliorate current concerns, are described.
