A Micro-Computer Containment Simulator to Support Training Programs for CANDU Reactor Operators
Main Article Content
Abstract
A computer training aid has been developed to support the Refresher Training Program for authorized Operations staff at the Point Lepreau Generating Station. The training aid illustrates the response of the containment systems for a CANDU reactor station under a variety of Loss-of-Coolant Accident (LOCA) scenarios. For greatest flexibility with classroom training, development was based on a micro-computer framework. Code predictions of pressure, temperature, and radio-activity levels are provided by the simulator for nineteen available accident scenarios. These scenarios are stored in a resident database. The importance of operation, monitoring, and maintenance of instruments and systems associated with the "Containment Pressure" and "Containment Activity*' critical safety parameters (CSP) are demonstrated by this simulator. Features, working assumptions, operating experience, and planned improvements far this simulator are discussed with reference to the philosophy of the CSP Refresher Training Program.
