CANDU Reactor Regulating System Response Modelling in SMOKIN Code
Main Article Content
Abstract
The SMOKIN code is used, at Ontario Hydro, for simulating the space-time kinetics transients of CANDU-PHW reactors. The method of solution, in SMOKIN code, is based on the assumption that the power distribution at any time can be synthesized from the weighted sum of harmonic modes, multiplied by the local effect functions which are dependent primarily on the device position and it's properties. The reactor regulating system (RRS) model in SMOKIN is a "generic input driven RRS model" that applies to Ontario Hydro CANDU reactors with different regulating systems. Preliminary simulations of the RRS response during the various transients have indicated good agreement with the experiment. The results are qualitatively correct in the cases where there are no available experimental data.
