Abstract

The advanced two-fluid thermal-hydraulic computer code TUF (Two Unequal Fluid) has been developed by Ontario Hydro far the analysis of transient system behaviour of CANDU nuclear generating stations. Solutions to the JUICE 1976 [I] standard problems 1, 2(a), 2(b), we= obtained using the TUF code as part of a co-dated verification program for the TUF code. These problems related to the injection of water into steam filled pipes, are directed toward the verification of LOCA analysis thermal hydraulic codes. Benchmark solutions were obtained by MECA, a method of characteristic wave tracing [2]. It is believed that MECA yields close approximations to the true mathematical solutions of these problems, and hence serves as a standard of comparison. These problems clearly specify the thermal-hydraulic model and the empirical constitutive equations that are to be used. Hence, the differences in the solutions m due to the numerical solution algorithms alone. Details of the problem as well as a comparison and discussion of the MECA and TUF solutions are presented.
