Abstract

Computer simulations of transient behaviour are needed in the safety assessment of a nuclear reactor. TANK (1,2,3), a two-dimensional two-neutron-energy group space-time reactor kinetics computer code, is being developed at the Whiteshell Nuclear Research Establishment as a tool to simulate transients in the MAPLE class of research reactors. TANK was used to analyze a variety of postulated reactivity insertion transients in both UO2- and metallic-fuelled MAPLE Research Reactors (2). The results of preliminary transient simulations are discussed in this paper.
