Atomic Energy of Canada Limited CANDU Operations The establishment of a comprehensive maintenance program is described for an off-shore CANDU 600 MW station, the Central Nuclear Embalse , built by AECL and operating in the province of Cordoba, Argentina. The off-shore project provides an interesting point of view and focuses on all aspects of a maintenance program with few premises given at the outset. Following some discussion regarding differ- ences between an off-shore and domestic environment, the objectives for a successful maintenance program are defined and maintenance philosophy is briefly addressed. The method of program implementation described centers about the main aspects: people, procedures, spare-parts/repair facilities, and planning. Organizational aspects are reviewed at various stages of project advancement, from construc- tion to commissioning to full power operation. The structure and functions of the maintenance staff organization are outlined at the time of client provisional acceptance of the station.
